Omaha orthodontist Dr. Hawley and many of his team members at Hawley Orthodontics are parents. So we know just how eager the kids are to get out and have some fun now that the winter weather is giving way to milder spring days. That’s why we’re sharing our favorite fun and free spring activities for kids in Omaha and the surrounding area.

Triple Crown Horse Discovery Zone at the Burlington Capital International Omaha Horse Show and Competition

Thursday, April 4 through Sunday, April 7 from 9am to 8pm (9am to 6pm on Sunday), check out over 15,000 square feet of interactive, educational and fun displays for kids at this annual horse show and competition. The Triple Crown Horse Discovery Zone will feature the “Gallery of Breeds” where kids can come face to muzzle with a variety of horse breeds, the popular “Parade of Breeds,” demos and shows. Guests will be able to pet the horses and chat with their owners.

Nebraska Science Festival Events

The Nebraska Science Festival will run from
Friday, April 5 through Sunday, April 28 with free family activities in Omaha at a variety of different locations. The festival is designed to make science accessible and fun to kids, teens and adults. You’ll find events ranging from free planetariums shows to the Fontenelle Elementary Space Demo. Home Depot Kids’ Workshops

Home Depot offers monthly free kids’ activities in Papillion during its children’s workshops. Coming up next on
Saturday, April 6 from 9am to 12n, will be a birdhouse workshop where you and your kiddo can build a birdhouse together. Once it’s complete, you can deck out your creation with stickers and paint. Kids get to keep their craft and, while supplies last, they’ll also receive a certificate of achievement, a workshop apron and a commemorative pin. Register here to reserve a spot.

Papillion Easter Egg Hunt

The annual Easter egg hunt is one of our favorite free activities for kids in Papillion and we always look forward to it in spring. This year’s event will be held on
Saturday, April 13 from 1 to 3pm at Halleck Park. The egg hunt times are 1:05pm for ages two and under, 1:15pm for ages three to four and 1:25pm for ages five to seven and eight through 12. After the hunt, you can stay and meet the Easter Bunny and his friends and enjoy game booths, snacks, drinks and more.

Dia del Niño Celebration

El Museo Latino, 4701 South 25th Street, Omaha –
Celebrate Dia del Niño, or Children’s Day, at the El Museo Latino on
Saturday, April 27 from 11am to 2pm. This day of free Omaha kids’ activities will include hands-on fun, music and dancing, games, balloons, free books, prizes and all sorts of cultural activities for children of all ages.

Sarpy County Earth Day

If you’re looking for free things to do with kids in Bellevue, look no further than Sarpy County Earth Day on
Sunday, April 28 from 12n to 4pm. The indoor event is open to the public and will feature exhibits and vendors, educational sessions, youth activities, scavenger hunts, a “trashion show” and more. Celebrate Earth Day with your friends and neighbors and see how Sarpy County is taking steps to a greener future.

Spring Kite Festival

Saturday, May 5 from 12n to 4pm, attend the annual Spring Kite Festival in La Vista. The free event is ideal for the whole family. Bring your own kites and have the kids bring along a bag for the candy drop. The kite extravaganza is hosted by the City of La Vista and the Midwest Wind Kite Fliers. It’s a unique way to enjoy the spring weather.

Papillion Farmers Market

The Farmers’ Market is another of our favorite Papillion activities for kids and families because you can get your weekly supply of local produce and baked goods while enjoying fresh air and a sense of community. In addition to food, you’ll also find wares from area artists and businesses. The 2019 Papillion Farmers Market is
Wednesdays from 5 to 8pm May 29 through August 21.
